Science shows how little we know for eg. the recent discoveries of the James Webb Space Telescope. The scientific method isn’t a definitive truth finder because the experiment is always through a human’s perspective.

I think we need to revamp most processes. Clearly with scientists creating a black hole and then it started glowing on its own - the double slit theory, etc....

It’s why I love what you are doing. There is such a disconnect on what science even is. It’s EXPERIMENTING and accepting that biology isn’t laws etched in stone it’s a moveable feast which we have only touched one tiny part! There is so much more to learn. Life as we know it, is likely

Some illusion- but the journey of learning is pretty wonderful. Wish we knew what you were working on. I wish we all could afford to know all of it. Thank you for going out of your comfort zone to teach us things. 💙

Science is not truth. Science is a method. Science is not an answer. Science is a question. Science is the answer to the question you pose. It is not just casting spells in the dark, believing nonsense, or trying to get lucky. The scientific method is the method by which we seek truth.

I understand that science is a method and if you think I don't you need to reread the article. My argument is that it is a bad method that doesn't accurately represent our reality nor provide a reasonable path to understanding our existence.

So what is the path? Religion? Mountain spirits? Art? Untested explanations are not better than tested explanations. Our best guess at reality is what lies in front of us, not some booga booga conjured up in our minds. We observe. We guess an explanation. We predict and therefore test by observing the outcome of out prediction. Then we guess again as necessary. That is what you do everyday in your lab and in your life. What's the alternative, Christian Nationalism?

I think you really need to read the article.

OK. I reread the article. It still says the same thing. You said: "We need to remove the dogma from our brain that science is truth and come to terms with the actual truth, that all science we know right now will one day be seen as wrong or incomplete. And thus we should constantly be searching to challenge what we think and what we know." Yes. That is a good definition of science. Science knows nothing. Science asks. Science seeks. You do a great service in encouraging ordinary folks to engage in science, but that is what you are doing. You are getting them to do science. Science is not just academics. Maxwell was a great scientist, so was Faraday. Diplomas and publications don't make the scientist. The spirit of enquiry makes the scientist. The method makes the scientist. It is the way.

Well, it is December, but for some of us, time is relative. This sounds like a discussion in Buddhism, and those are interesting but suffer from the inability of language to clearly express. Buddhism's hypothesis is non separation, but to use language we separate things. Also for science. For instance, what is alive and what is not?

What are the deep hypotheses of science? I ask this seriously, as a non scientist fan of science.

And it never occurred to me that science was truth. But perhaps that has to do with education.

Jo, congratulations for coming over to the dark side.

My son, Brandon Jackson added me to the subscriber list. Unfriendly, compute and suicidal shrapnel. I am so thankful that he did. I always forward these newsletters to my daughter-in-law to make sure she is OK with what I am getting my granddaughter for gifts! Of course, she always is! I have to check, or I will be in trouble. I am not mama to her I am Nana.
